Top Ten Vampire Films

Here are my top ten vampire films. Since everyone knows I'm a huge vampire fan, I should start off my top horror movie lists with vampire movies. I'll even include my honorable mentions.

1) 30 Days of Night

Plot: The movie takes place in a small town in Alaska during the time of year when they are plunged into darkness for a month. During this time they are attacked by vampires. The movie is based on the graphic novels.

For anyone who has not seen this movie, it definitely brought the fear back to the vampire genre.

2) Queen of the Damned

Plot: After Lestat awakens from sleeping for centuries, he becomes a rock star, and ultimately awakens Akasha the queen of all vampires.

Now this movie isn't the best by any means. There are a lot of problems especially if you read the book. Throw out everything you know about the book, think of it as a totally new story. If you can do that, the movie is pretty good. The soundtrack is amazing, the cast is incredible. I mean Stuart Townsend is hot as Lestat and Aaliyah was amazing as Akasha. Definitely check it out.

3) Blade

Plot: Blade is about a man who was born a half breed, a day walker, half-vampire, half-human. He hunts vampires, protecting humanity from a vampire outbreak.

This movie is amazing, Wesley Snipes is the best Blade, in my opinion. I was hoping they would keep making more after Trinity. It was disappointing that it didn't happen. The movie has a great cast though, some of the effects aren't the best, but Stephen Dorff's character was my favorite. Deacon Frost is an epic badass villain, you just want to hate him. The makeup was amazing for this movie though.

4) The Lost Boys (1987)

Plot: Two teenage boys move to northern California with their mother to a town with a vampire problem.

The soundtrack is the best part of the movie, although I liked the makeup and special affects. The actors were amazing too. There's humor, some great thrills, and beautiful cast members. The story wasn't bad, it was a little similar to Fright Night.

5) Fright Night (1985)

Plot: A new neighbor moves next door to teenager Charley Brewster. Charley suspects the new neighbor is a vampire but no one believes him.

I found the movie funny in parts, overall it was a great movie. For the time period I adored the makeup and special affects. The story reminded me of a book I read as a child, so the nostalgia was there too.

6) Night Watch (2005)

Plot: For hundreds of years a war has been waged between the Warriors of Light and the Warriors of Darkness. A truce was agreed upon, and placed on two groups to uphold the truce. The groups were known as the Night Watch and Day Watch. However, a Night Watch member finds himself at the center of a prophecy that could mark the end of the delicate balance between the two sides.

I'm a huge fan of foreign films, and this movie is one. There are a lot of things wrong with this movie because it was low budget. But the story was good and I adore the director. He's done some great works in the horror community. The movie is brutal and I liked the story. It was different and some of the creatures were creepy.

7)Vampire Hunter D (1985)

Plot: This is an animated movie and might be in Japanese. Few humans remain in what is now a wasteland where they spend most of their time trying to survive vicious vampires and demonic beasts. A swordsman named D, who is part vampire himself, is hired by humans to kill a Count when a local girl is attacked.

8) Day Watch (2006)

Plot: This is the second movie in the Night Watch trilogy, I don't want to give away the details because it might ruin the first movie for you.

This one I'll admit wasn't as good as Night Watch, but it's still worth a watch. It's cheesier than the first movie, however the twists, action, and surprises overpower it.

9) Underworld

Plot: Vampires and Lycans wage an age-old battle in this movie. When the Lycans set their eyes on a special human named Michael.

I'll admit I have seen this movie more times than I care to have. It had some great moments don't get me wrong. I adored the werewolves, they did a great job with the special affects of the transformations and how the werewolves looked. They were different from other werewolf films. However, I didn't like how the vampires acted more like cats vs dogs. It was ridiculous. It's why I put it so low on my list, I want to like the movie, but there's just too many things wrong with it. Kate Beckinsale is gorgeous and some of the Lycan actors are also hot. But the story was lacking, the sequels were horrible.

10) Blade Trinity

Plot: The war between vampires and humans continues in this final installment. Dracula is introduced to aid the vampires in their attempt to take out Blade once in for all.

I know many of you are probably wondering why this is even on my list, but I enjoyed the movie. I liked the story, the cast, and I found it a good mix of comedy and horror. The makeup was incredible, the inclusion of Abigail Whistler was amazing. Plus, Ryan Reynolds banter with the villainess was the best part. I enjoyed the parts when Wesley Snipes was first introduced to the band of misfits too. It was just a fun movie for me. Exactly what a group of human vampire hunters probably would look like too.

Honorable Mentions:

The Shed (It's kind of a B-movie but the story was interesting. The makeup of the vampires reminds me of Nosferatu a little although I've never seen the movie.)

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (If you like teen movies, I liked the story and the makeup was amazing. I enjoyed the special affects too, especially the demons.)

Don't see your favorite vampire film on the list? Leave me some of your favorites in the comments, I'll be sure to check them out. I'm always on the search for new vampire movies.
